GENOTROPIN is a recombinant DNA polypeptide hormone. It has 191 amino acid residues, a molecular weight of 22,124 daltons, and an isoelectric point (pH) of 5.0. The amino acid sequence of the product is identical to that of human growth hormone of pituitary origin (somatropin). GENOTROPIN is synthesized in a strain of Escherichia coli modified by the addition of the human growth hormone gene.

Reconstituted recombinant somatropin solution has an osmolality of approximately 300 mOsm/kg and a pH of approximately 6.7. The concentration of the reconstituted solution varies depending on the dosage and presentation.
Each GENOTROPIN 36 IU (12 mg) cartridge contains in compartment I (Powder): Somatropin equivalent to 12 mg of somatropin once reconstituted in 1 mL.
